Therefore, Microsoft recommends installing SHS on a dedicated server. ========================================== 1.2 Content and Configuration Directories ========================================== SHS is designed to run a large number of Web sites on a single server and uses a hierarchy of content and configuration directories to improve site scalability. When the post- installation script, install.wsf, is executed, approximately 18,000 content directories and 18,000 configuration directories are created. Depending on the server configuration and other applications running on the server, this can have an impact on overall system performance. If the Indexing service is running on a machine, the system administrator should disable content indexing on the SHS content and configuration directories. This may be done by locating the SHS hosting directory chosen at installation time, right-clicking on the 'content' folder, and selecting 'Properties.' Click the 'Advanced' button, and clear the check box labeled: 'For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder,' and click OK to close the dialog. When prompted to apply changes to subdirectories, choose the option labled: 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files.' Repeat these steps for the IIS-SHSconfig directory. =============================== 1.3 Reboot during installation =============================== Depending on your system configuration, you may be prompted to restart the system after the installation completes. ================================================ 1.4 Disabling prompts for User name and Password ================================================ You may see a dialog prompting for your user name and password when accessing the sample Administration site. To disable the prompts from Microsoft Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and click Security. Click the 'Internet' zone, and click on the 'Custom Level' button. At the bottom of the list of settings, under 'User Authentication,' choose 'Automatic logon with current username and password.'
