May 1, 2002 Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Driver for JDBC™ Redistribution Guidelines The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC was released on May 1, 2002 and is available for download via http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads. It is available at no charge to all licensed SQL Server customers subject to terms and conditions listed in the End-User License Agreement (EULA) that accompanies the download. As stated in the EULA, users may download the driver from designated sites but may not redistribute in any form. As such, ISVs who build application that uses this driver and need to deploy them to customers have at least three options available: 1. Provide the customer with the relevant download information and instructions so that the customer may download and install the driver on their own as part of the installation process. 2. Include the download task as part of the ISV’s installation/deployment process to be performed with the customer at the customer’s location. 3. Provide a component with the ISV’s setup/installation program that will automatically: i. Check for presence of internet connection ii. If connection is available, launch the browser directly to the driver’s download site so that the customer may then complete the download as part of the installation process Regardless of which approach the ISV takes, it is highly recommended that the download URL, download instructions and installation instructions be included in the ISV’s standard documentation that is provided with the product. Note that the customer only needs to download the driver from Microsoft’s designated sites one time. After a successful download and agreeing to the terms and conditions as listed in the EULA, the customer may then proceed to install the driver on as many computers within the company as needed.
