This Quick Start Guide provides scaled down instructions for installing and configuring a complete installation of Microsoft BizTalk RFID on a single computer running Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

The information in this Quick Start Guide assumes certain prerequisite knowledge on behalf of the reader. For detailed step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring a custom installation of BizTalk RFID on other platforms see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=81041.

Before installing BizTalk RFID, you should read Microsoft BizTalk RFID Known Issues, located at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=47124. It contains important information about this release of BizTalk RFID.

Note
Antivirus software may prevent assemblies from registering. If you encounter an "Error 1935" during installation, turn off any antivirus software and restart the installation.

Hardware Requirements

The following table shows the minimum recommended hardware requirements for a BizTalk RFID installation. In a production environment, the volume of traffic may dictate greater hardware requirements for your servers.

Component Minimum Requirement

Computer and processor

A computer with an Intel Pentium-compatible CPU that is:

  • 133 megahertz (MHz) or higher Intel Pentium-compatible CPU

Hyper-Threading and Dual-Core processors are supported.

Memory

512 megabytes (MB) of RAM

Hard disk

6 gigabytes (GB) disk space

Drive

CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

Display

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Microsoft Windows XP SP2-compatible super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor

Other

Network adapter card (we recommend 10 MBps or larger bandwidth)

Software Requirements

The minimum software requirements for a complete installation of BizTalk RFID on a single computer include:

  • Microsoft Windows XP SP2 32-bit, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 or higher, or Windows Vista 32-bit

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 on Windows Server 2003 computers

  • Web Services Enhancement (WSE) 3.0, if you choose Complete installation. WSE is required by the BizTalk RFID SDK.

  • Microsoft Message Queuing service (MSMQ), if you choose to install RFID Server. MSMQ is a Windows component and can be installed by using Add/Remove Windows Components in Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel.

  • Any one of the following database software, if you choose to install RFID Server, and want to install the database component of BizTalk RFID on the same computer:

    • Microsoft SQL Server™ 2005 Service Pack 2

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) release A version 8.00.760 or higher

    Note
    The SQL Server or MSDE database must be available and configured to support Windows authentication.

  • Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0 RTM version

  • World Wide Web Publishing Service on Windows Server 2003 computers

Install Prerequisites

The following table lists the prerequisite software needed for a complete installation of BizTalk RFID.

Step/Task Notes

Step 1: Install Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2

  • After installing Windows, you must be logged on as an administrator, or add a Windows user account to the Administrators group in order to install additional software.

Step 2: Install Critical Updates for Windows

  • Install any high priority updates listed at the Windows Update Web site

Step 3: Install Internet Information Services 6.0

  • Enable ASP.NET, and run in native mode

  • Set the ASP.NET version to 2.0.50727

Step 4: Enable a port for BizTalk RFID service

  • Add port number 7891 to the list of exceptions in Windows Firewall.

Step 5: Install SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack 2.

  • Enable Windows authentication

  • May be installed on a remote computer

Step 6: Install Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0

  • WSE 3.0 is available here.

Step 7: Install the World Wide Web Publishing Service

  • Start the service

Install and Configure BizTalk Server 2006 R2

In this section you install and configure a complete installation of BizTalk RFID using basic configuration.

Step/Task Notes

Step 1: Install BizTalk RFID

  • The account you are logged on as must be part of the local administrators group and have administrator rights on SQL Server.

  • Install all components

Step 2: Configure the Business Rules Engine

  • Install Basic or Custom configuration

  • Not mandatory (may be configured / reconfigured later)
