Windows® Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 Installation Instructions for Office “12” (Beta 1) customers

This version of Windows Workflow Foundation is compatible with release versions of Microsoft® .NET Framework version 2.0 and Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005, and is compatible with Office “12” (Beta 1).

When is Windows Workflow Foundation Required?

The Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 runtime components are required for Microsoft Windows SharePoint® Services "3.0" (Beta 1), Office "12" servers (Beta 1), and “FrontPage® 12” (Beta1). See instructions in Section A below.

In addition to the Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 runtime components, the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation are required for customers who are designing workflows in Visual Studio 2005 and/or require the Windows Workflow Foundation SDK. See instructions in Section B below.

Section A. Office “12” (Beta 1) customers requiring Windows Workflow Foundation runtime components

The Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 runtime components are required for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services "3.0" (Beta 1), Office "12" servers (Beta 1), and "FrontPage 12" (Beta 1).

Remove earlier version of Windows Workflow Foundation

If you have an earlier versions of Windows Workflow Foundation installed, you must remove it before installing Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2. Perform the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Remove Windows Workflow Foundation.

Updating the .NET Framework version 2.0

If you have a pre-release version of the .NET Framework version 2.0 installed on your machine, you must uninstall it and install the release version and described in the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Remove Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta.

  3. Install the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86).

Install Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 runtime components from this location.

Note   There are two options available depending on your processor architecture: x86 and x64. Office “12” (Beta 1) customers should use the x86 option.

Section B. Office “12” (Beta 1) customers who are designing workflows in Visual Studio 2005 and/or require the Windows Workflow Foundation SDK

The Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation installation package contains the extensions, runtime components, and an SDK (with a command-line compiler specifically designed for compiling workflows).

It is not necessary to use Visual Studio 2005 when developing against Windows Workflow Foundation; however, if you choose to do so, the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions make designing workflows much easier through the use of a graphical designer.

Upgrade from a pre-release version of Visual Studio 2005

If you want to use Visual Studio 2005 to develop your workflows, then you must uninstall pre-release versions of Visual Studio 2005 and then install the release version before installing Windows Workflow Foundation Beta1.2.

Remove earlier version of Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation

If you have an earlier version of Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation installed, you must remove it before installing Windows Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2. Perform the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Remove Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation.

    Note   By uninstalling the Visual Studio 2005 extensions, you also uninstall the Windows Workflow Foundation software development kit (SDK).

  3. Remove Windows Workflow Foundation as described in section A.

Install Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2

Install the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2 package from this location.

Note   The Visual Studio 2005 Extensions will not be installed if you do not have Visual Studio 2005 installed; however, the runtime components and the SDK will be installed.
