5. Verify the Settings of the VMs
1. For this
demo, you can use either Microsoft® Windows
Server 2008 Hyper-V or Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V. The VMs were created using Windows Server
2008 Hyper-V. The instructions in this
setup guide were created using Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. Host machine hardware

a.
The self-extracting program allows the VMs to be extracted to a
chosen disk location. For the purpose of
this setup guide, the C:\ drive will be used to reference VM file
locations.
b. Double-click
the *..exe file(s) to beging the self-extraction. The program will create the required target
folder.
c. Extract
the files to the C:\ExchangeDemos folder shown in the extraction program.
d. Continue
to step 5 while the files are being extracted.
a.
On the host computer, click Start, click Administrative
Tools, and then click Hyper-V Manager.
b.
In Hyper-V Manager, in the Actions pane, click Virtual Network
Manager.
c.
In the Virtual Network Manager wizard, under What type of
virtual network do you want to create? click External and then click
Add.
d.
Under New Virtual Network, in the Name field, type External
and click Apply.
e.
In the Apply Network Changes window, click Yes.
f.
Click OK to close the window.
3.
Import
the Virtual Machines necessary to complete the labs. Only begin this section
after all of the files have successfully extracted.
a.
In Hyper-V Manager, in the Actions pane, click Import Virtual
Machine.
b.
On the Import Virtual Machine page, click Browse.
c.
On the Select Folder page, navigate to the location of the
extracted VMs (e.g. C:\ExchangeDemos), click the folder SLC-DC01, and
then click Select Folder.
d.
On the Import Virtual Machine page, click Import.
e.
An ‘Import Completed with warnings’ dialog box may appear. The
warning can be ignored at this time. The
VM settings will be verified later in this setup guide.
4.
Verify
the Settings of the VMs.
a.
On the host computer, in Hyper-V Manager, right-click SLC
–DC01, and then click Settings.
b.
On the Settings for SLC –DC01 page, verify the VM setting
according to the following table:

c. If
the settings are correct, click Canel to close the window.
d. If
you need to correct the settings, change the appropriate configuration and
click OK.
e. If
the settings are correct, click Canel to close the window.
f.
If you need to correct the settings, change
the appropriate configuration and click OK.
a.
On the host computer, in Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, right-click
SLC-DC01 and click Start.
b.
Right-click SLC-DC01 and click Connect.
c.
Wait for the SLC-DC01 logon screen before starting SLC-OCS.
d.
In Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, right-click SLC-OCS
and click Start.
e.
On the SLC –DC01 Virtual Machine Connection, press CTRL+ALT+END
or click the Ctrl-Alt-Delete button on the tool-bar.
f.
Log on as Contoso\Administrator with a password of pass@word1
a.
Within 10 days of the first logon to SLC-DC01, you will need to
activate Windows.
b.
Click Start, then right-click Computer, and then
click Properties.
c.
In the System Properties window, click Activate, in the
Windows Activation section. Choose the
option to Activate over the Internet, when prompted.
d.
Once Activated, click Start and then Shutdown. Note: Recommend applying a snapshot at this
point.
5. (Required
only if changes have been made) Apply Virtual Machine Snapshot.
a.
If changes were made to any VM in the VM Set, shutdown each VM
from within the VM operating system.
b.
After the VMs are shutdown, right-click each VM and click Snapshot. This will create a new snapshot starting
point for the Demos and save your configuration changes.
c.
After creating a new snapshot, start the VMs according to the
above procedure.
