Install and Use Microsoft Map in Excel 2000 Click here to email this to a friend.

Microsoft Map allows you to display and analyze information by geographical region. To use this feature in Microsoft Excel 2000, you must first install the software and then add the Map command to a menu or toolbar.

Installing Microsoft Map

If you chose the default installation options for Microsoft Office 2000 or Excel 2000, the Map command is available to add to a menu or toolbar. However, if you add the command and then try to use it, Excel will offer to install Microsoft Map for you, but will then tell you to complete the install manually. This will also happen if you selected Installed on First Use for Microsoft Map when you installed Excel or Office.

Follow these steps to install Microsoft Map:

  1. In the Windows Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, click your version of Office or Excel, and then click Add/Remove.
  3. In the Maintenance Mode window, click Add or Remove Features.
  4. Under Excel, click the arrow next to Microsoft Map, and then click Run from My Computer.
  5. Click Update Now.

Adding the Map Command

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  2. Click the Commands tab.
  3. Under Categories, click Insert.
  4. Drag the Map button to the toolbar or menu where you want it to appear.
  5. On the Customize dialog box, click Close.
Microsoft Map should now be ready for you to use.
