Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1
Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) includes this item and several other important updates. Microsoft recommends that you install Windows 2000 SP1. Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates and security fixes to the Internet Explorer technology. Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 can be installed as an upgrade to existing versions of Internet Explorer, or on computers with no previous Internet Explorer installation.
- If you are running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT® 4.0, installing Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 will upgrade your computer to 128-bit encryption.
- If you are running Windows 2000, installing Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 will not change the current level of encryption on your computer.
Note Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 is eligible for export from the U.S. to all customers worldwide, except to U.S. embargoed destinations. Information on exporting Microsoft products is available at www.microsoft.com/exporting/.

System Requirements
Before you download Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1, make sure your computer meets or exceeds the following system requirements:
- A 486 with a 66 megahertz (MHz) processor (Pentium processor recommended)
- For Windows 95 or Windows 98: 16 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) minimum
- For Windows NT 4.0: 32 MB of RAM minimum, and you must be running Service Pack 3 or higher
- For Windows 2000: 64 MB of RAM minimum
- Mouse
- Modem or Internet connection
- Some components may require additional system resources

Anti-virus software users: Some anti-virus software programs may interfere with this download. Please disable anti-virus software while installing Internet Explorer.
- On the Product Updates page, select the check box next to
Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1.
- Click the Download button at the top of the page.
- Follow the instructions on your screen.
Windows Update downloads and installs Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1.
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.
Important If you have Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 installed on your computer, uninstall is not available for Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1.
- Make sure Internet Explorer is not running.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1.
- Click Change/Remove.
To uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1 quickly and easily using Windows Update:
- Go to the Product Updates page.
- Be sure to click Yes if a prompt appears.
- When the Product Updates page appears, click the Show Installed Updates button at the top of the page.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1 when you are not connected to the Internet:
- Make sure Internet Explorer is not running.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools.
- Click Add/Remove.
