Critical Update, February 9, 2002

This update addresses the "Update Available for the Background Intelligence Transfer Service" issue in Windows XP, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q314862. Download now to resolve two issues in the Background Intelligence Transfer Service in Windows XP.

In the first issue, if a user logs on during the "Pending Start" state while a file transfer job is pending, system services might not start for the first two minutes. The second issue affects Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 98, and Windows 95. If Internet Options is set to Always dial my default connection before upgrading to Windows XP, the Background Intelligence Transfer Service remains in the "Connecting" state when you try to transfer a file.
