Security Update, October 18, 2001

This update eliminates the "Invalid RDP Data can Cause Terminal Service Failure" vulnerability in computers running Windows 2000, and is discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-052. Download now to help prevent a malicious user from causing your server to fail.

This vulnerability exists because the Remote Data Protocol (RDP) in computers running Windows 2000 does not handle a particular series of data packets correctly. If a malicious user sends this particular series of data packets to an affected server, it can cause the server to fail.

Restart your computer to complete the installation.

How to uninstall

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP3)[See Q307454 for more information], and then click Change/Remove to uninstall.
