Windows Movie Maker 1.2 is an update for Windows Movie Maker 1.1, released in Windows XP. Windows Movie Maker 1.2 supports the new Windows Media v8 video codec and, additionally, enables recording of video at a frame size of 640x480. Users who want to increase the maximum frame size for recording and create higher quality output using the latest codecs should download this update. This update also improves quality related to publishing DV-AVI files.

Note after applying this update recording time and hard disk usage during the record process may increase but resulting files will be of higher quality.

After installing this update, new record options are available within the record and save movie dialogs in Windows Movie Maker.
