Security Update, August 3, 2001

This update resolves the "Malformed RPC Request Can Cause Service Failure" denial of service vulnerability in Windows NT® 4.0 and Windows 2000 Remote Procedure Call (RPC) servers, and is discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-041. Download now to prevent a malicious user from disrupting the operation of your server.

RPC allows components on different computers to communicate with each other by making requests. This vulnerability exists because affected RPC servers accept invalid requests that can prevent them from operating correctly. If a malicious user sends a specially malformed request to an affected server, it can disrupt the operation of the server.

For more information about this vulnerability, read Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-041. (This site is in English).
