MSN Messenger Service 3.5
MSN Messenger Service lets you see when your friends are online, send an instant message, send a file (e.g. music or photos), have a voice chat, or even send a message to a pager. New features let you call a phone anywhere in the world for a very low rate (and for free to the U.S.), track your stocks, and connect automatically from inside a firewall.
The new MSN Messenger Service provides several benefits:
- MSN Messenger Service 3.5 provides the ability to call anywhere in the world for a very low rate, in addition to its free long distance service to the U.S.*
Once you place money on account with Net2Phone, you can call almost anywhere in the world. Simply choose the phone number of someone on your list, or use the dial pad to call anyone else.
- Using MSN Messenger 3.5, you now have several ways to communicate from your computer.
In addition to phone calls, you can use Messenger to call a friend's computer and talk using your microphone, send instant messages to online friends, and send invitations to play Internet games or to online meetings using NetMeeting®. You can also connect to friends, even if they're offline, by sending a message to a pager or sending an e-mail message.
- Keep in touch with the stock market.
Track the stocks in your MSN Watch List on Messenger's Stock tab. [For U.S. and Canada (English) only.] Also, sign up with MoneyCentral to receive alerts in Messenger when changes occur in your stocks.
- Be in control of your communications with MSN Messenger 3.5.
Customize your display name, fonts, colors, and add fun emoticons to your messages. Take advantage of privacy features that allow you to block communications from specific users, and see who has included you on their contact lists.
*Note Calls placed using MSN Messenger Service 3.5 are free when made from a computer to a computer or when made from a computer to a telephone or mobile device in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. To place calls from a computer to a telephone or mobile device outside of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, you must have a prepaid Net2Phone account and MSN Messenger Service 3.5, all fees for such calls will be deducted from this account by Net2Phone. However, please note that any standard phone charges and connect-time charges you normally pay for your Internet service provider (ISP), telephone, cell phone, or mobile charges will still apply when you place calls with Messenger. Certain country restrictions also apply; void where prohibited by law. Internet calls are regulated and blocked by law in certain countries. Requires an MSN, Passport, or Hotmail® account, multimedia computer, 28.8 Kbps modem, sound card, speakers, microphone, and Internet access. To install MSN Messenger Service 3.5, your computer must meet or exceed the following system requirements:
- A Windows-based PC 486DX/66 or higher (running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0 or later), 2 MB disk space available, and 8 MB RAM

- A Macintosh or PowerPC (running MacOS 8.0 or higher), 2 MB disk space available, and 16 MB RAM
Other requirements
- Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0, Netscape Navigator version 4.0, or higher
- Voice: A full-duplex sound card, a speaker and microphone, and a modem and a working connection with speeds of 28.8 KB per second or faster.
- The product is started automatically every time Windows restarts. An icon
is available in the taskbar (next to the clock).
- Double-click the icon to use MSN Messenger Service.
- If you don't see the icon in your task bar, you can always click
Start, point to Programs, and then click MSN Messenger
Service.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select MSN Messenger Service 3.5.
- Click Add/Remove (Change/Remove in Windows 2000).
