Security Update, November 11, 2000

This update resolves the "Terminal Server Login Buffer Overflow" security vulnerability in Windows NT® 4.0 Terminal Server Edition. There is an unchecked buffer (a temporary data storage area) in Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server that processes the user name when you log onto the server. By entering random data into the username field of the login prompt, a malicious user can cause a buffer overrun. This allows the attacker's code to overwrite the server's program code. Download now to help prevent a malicious user from running code on your terminal server to add, delete, or modify files, or upload code to the server.

For more information about this vulnerability, please read Microsoft Security Bulletin MS00-087. (This site is in English.)
