Microsoft® Windows® Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2 Installation Instructions

This version of Windows® Workflow Foundation Runtime Components is compatible with release versions of Microsoft® .NET Framework version 2.0 and Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005, and is compatible with the 2007 Microsoft® Office (Beta 2) release. This version is not compatible with WinFX Runtime Components February CTP.

When is Windows Workflow Foundation Required?

The Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2 are required for Microsoft Windows SharePoint® Services (version 3) (Beta 2), Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007 (Beta 2), and Microsoft Office SharePoint® Designer 2007 (Beta 2). See instructions in Section A below.

In addition to the Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2, the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation provides the Windows Workflow Foundation SDK and a designer for creating workflows using Visual Studio 2005. See instructions in Section B below.

Section A. Customers requiring Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2

The Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2 are required for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (version 3) (Beta 2), Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (Beta 2), and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 (Beta 2).

Remove earlier version of Windows Workflow Foundation

If you have an earlier version of Windows Workflow Foundation installed, you must remove it before installing Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2. Perform the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Remove Windows Workflow Foundation.

Updating the .NET Framework version 2.0

If you have a pre-release version of the .NET Framework version 2.0 installed on your machine, you must uninstall it and install the release version and described in the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Remove Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta.

  3. Depending on whether you are running an x86 or x64 version of Windows, install the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) or the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x64).

Install Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2

Install Windows Workflow Foundation Runtime Components Beta 2.2 from this location.

Note   There are two options available depending on your processor architecture: x86 and x64.

Section B. Customers who are designing workflows in Visual Studio 2005 and/or require the Windows Workflow Foundation SDK

The Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation installation package contains the Visual Studio Extensions, Runtime Components, and an SDK (with a command-line compiler specifically designed for compiling workflows).

It is not necessary to use Visual Studio 2005 when developing against Windows Workflow Foundation; however, if you choose to do so, the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions make designing workflows easier through the use of a graphical designer.
