1.0 Introduction

This file contains late-breaking, installation, and other important information on Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 Mobile Edition (SQL Server Mobile). It supplements the SQL Server Mobile documentation. You should read this file completely before installing this release of SQL Server Mobile.

1.1 Obtaining SQL Server Mobile

SQL Server Mobile is available with both Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005.

The SQL Server Mobile Server Tools file (sqlce30setupen.msi) is available from within SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005. You can also download the SQL Server Mobile Server Tools at this Microsoft Web site.

SQL Server Mobile does not support development with Microsoft eMeddebed Visual Basic.

1.2 Additional Information About SQL Server Mobile

SQL Server Mobile Books Online documentation is available through both SQL Server 2005 Books Online and Visual Studio 2005 Books Online. In both cases, the documentation is installed to your local hard disk by the Setup program.

2.0 Installing SQL Server Mobile

This section contains installation-related information. For complete information about installing and configuring a server environment for Remote Data Access or merge replication, see "Installing a Server Environment" and "Configuring and Securing Server Environment" in SQL Server Mobile Books Online.

2.1 Installing SQL Server Mobile Server Tools

If you are installing SQL Server Mobile Edition Server Tools on a computer running Windows XP SP2 that uses Windows Firewall, you must specifically enable the HTTP and/or HTTPS services.

To enable the HTTP or HTTPS service

  1. Double-click Windows Firewall in Control Panel.

  2. Click the Advanced tab.

  3. In Network Connection Settings, select the connection, and then click Settings.

  4. Select Web Server (HTTP) or Secure Web Server (HTTPS), make sure the server name or IP address is correct, and then click OK.

2.2 Uninstalling SQL Server Mobile Server Tools

To uninstall SQL Server Mobile Server Tools

  1. Double-click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

  2. From the list of installed programs, select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition.

  3. Click Remove.

  4. After uninstalling, you should restart IIS or reboot the computer running IIS.
